Meet Touch Tuina Practitioner Ana and find out more about her Tuina journey
What inspired you to become involved with Tuina?
I’ve been a massage therapist for 10 years. I wanted to go deeper into my profession, and I thought that learning about medical massage was the way for me to proceed. So I thought ‘why don’t you become a Touch Tuina practitioner Ana?!’
How long did it take to train? How long have you been a practitioner?
We’ve done one year so far, but there are other courses coming up, so I’m really looking forward to developing my skills further.
What do you like about working with Errol & Mariana?
I like the way they run the clinic, because they’re incredibly passionate about their work. They really believe in what they’re doing and they’re always eager to learn more and teach more, so I find the environment very stimulating.
What types of clients do you treat?
The clinic has a real variety of patients coming in. Previously, being a massage therapist, I generally had very young and fit people most of the time. However, here at Touch Tuina I’ve had much younger people and much older people, including those who have various health struggles, which gives me a range of very different scenarios to work with.
Why do you think everyone should try a Tuina treatment?
Because there are so many benefits and anybody would really feel a difference after a treatment. If you have issues, if you’re healthy or if you’ve got some tension problems or some other muscular health problems, this kind of treatment gives huge benefits.
What’s your favourite part of the job?
Treating patients! It’s a flow state kind of work and it’s nice to experience the process of troubleshooting. You meet the patient, they tell you what the issues are and it’s a bit of an investigation that goes on to understand exactly what’s happening. So, from that point on, there’s a process of problem solving that takes place.
Are there specific treatment areas you specialise in?
Not specialising as such but my favourite areas to treat are the shoulders and neck, probably because mine can get really stiff, so I know what it’s like to experience this. It’s a very common complaint!
Do you have any favourite success stories with clients?
One of the youngest patients that comes in is a young athlete, he plays football and gets incredibly stiff muscles. At the very beginning, I wasn’t sure that I was having an impact whatsoever on his body and wondered if my pressure was enough. After a few treatments though, I could tell I was really making a difference and felt so much more comfortable with treating him. So, it’s great to see the changes that can be made over time.
