Why not try some neck strengthening with The Shoulder Shrug!
This month’s Stretch of the Month, The Shoulder Shrug, is brought to you by Touch Tuina Practitioner Angelika. This exercise corrects body alignment by strengthening the neck and helping to correct posture, preventing the head from falling forward. This stretch is great for strengthening the upper trapezium and neck muscles.

Who is this stretch good for?
Anybody with neck problems or hip pain, people working at computers, young kids, athletes and phone users (which is most of us!). It’s also good for anybody who has neck misalignment, forward hunching or a hump. Practicing this stretch helps to strengthen the neck and correct the hump.
How to do The Shoulder Shrug
Sit on a chair with armrests, feet flat on the ground
Hold the armrests with elbows bent to start
Keeping your feet on the ground, straighten your arms to lift your body up and down
Breathing in on the way up and out on the way down
Keep arms straight throughout
To increase the difficulty, try with your feet raised. This will be harder to do, so only progress to the advanced version if you’re confident with the introductory version.
Benefits of The Shoulder Shrug
This simple stretch strengthens the neck and upper trapezius, improving alignment and posture while helping to prevent the head from falling forward.
