Getting to know our practitioners
Meet Touch Tuina Practitioner Andrew and find out more about his Tuina journey…
What did you do before becoming a Tuina practitioner?
‘I was into technology. I’m still into technology actually. I write code for iOS.’
What inspired you to become involved with Tuina?
‘I was always familiar with it, back in 1994 Errol introduced me to it. Errol’s my cousin by the way. Since then I always had a curiosity about getting involved and decided to take the plunge about a year and a half ago.’
How long did it take you to train? How long have you been a practitioner?
‘Training is about a year I would say, so about a year and a half now.’
What types of clients do you treat?
‘Primarily older people, retired people.’
Why do you think everyone should try a Tuina treatment?
‘It’s a really simple explanation, this thing has been around for 2000 years and there’s a reason why we still practice it today. It’s, in my estimation, very beneficial to just about anybody, and everybody should give it a shot. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anybody or everybody.’
And what’s your favourite part of the job?
‘Seeing someone get off the table with a huge smile on their face, or their eyes are really wide, you can tell this person is feeling significantly better than when they laid down 20 minutes before!’
What’s your favourite thing about working with Errol and Mariana?
‘This might sound really cheesy, Errol’s my cousin, I love Errol. Errol and I go back, way, way back. It’s always cool to be around him and I like Mariana, she’s lovely.’
Are there any specific treatment areas you specialise in?
‘No, I give Tuina massages across the spectrum.’
Do you have any favorite success stories with clients?
‘My first client that I saw on a regular basis, she had a frozen shoulder. At the end of six or seven weeks, there was dramatic movement in the shoulder compared to six or seven weeks prior. That was great, I have a video of that and she’s all smiles and ‘hey look at what I can do’ kind of thing, it’s great! There’s real satisfaction that you really make a difference to peoples lives.’
