Self-Care that goes beneath the Surface: A holistic approach with Touch Tuina

What does self-care really mean?

Self-care has become a bit of a buzzword in recent years, often used to market candles, health foods and luxury wellness products. But at Touch Tuina, we believe self-care goes way beyond that. True self-care is about long-term health, balance and resilience – not just pampering yourself for a moment.

With today being International Self Care Day, it’s the perfect time to pause, reflect and make your wellbeing a real priority.

Why self-care matters more than ever

According to a recent report by Mental Health UK, 34% of adults experienced high or extreme levels of stress  ‘always’ or ‘often’ last year – and an overwhelming 91% reported feeling under pressure at some point. With so many people feeling the strain of modern life, it’s no surprise that there’s a growing focus on supporting mental health as well as physical health.

But with an endless stream of products, treatments and quick fixes on offer, it can be hard to cut through the noise and find what truly helps.

Wellness Tips from our Team

Ann-Marie – Senior Practitioner: Tuina massages and deep breathing are a big part of my self-care. I always come back to the breath, just creating that space for myself, whether I’m at home, on my lunch break, or here at the clinic. And when the day feels grey or heavy, I love the sun. I try to visualise myself on a plane, flying above the clouds. Even if it’s rainy down below, I remind myself the sun is still there. That image fills my whole body with warmth, and instantly lifts my mood.

Adrian – Senior Practitioner: Find something that helps you unwind. It might be the gym, but if that’s not your thing, try walking, light jogging, yoga or mediation. The key is to move your body and get your heart rate up. It’s not just about getting your steps in, move the Qi around, boost your energy and support your overall wellbeing.

Peter – Senior Practitioner: Prioritise getting enough sleep and take time to understand why it matters. Quality sleep supports your mental clarity, emotinoal balance, immunity and physical recovery. If you struggle to wind down, limit screen time before bed, stop scrolling! Try reading a book or listening to some music that helps you relax.
