What is Infrared Therapy?

Most people have experienced a sauna at some point, often in a gym, spa or on holiday, but few truly understand what saunas actually do. While they’re commonly seen as a tool for relaxation, infrared therapy saunas go far beyond that. What do we use?

It’s important to note that not all saunas are created equal. The infrared therapy saunas we use at Touch Tuina (made by Health Mate) offer deeper, more targeted benefits than traditional steam or dry saunas. Traditional saunas heat the air to temperatures between 80-100°C, creating an intense environment that many find difficult to tolerate for extended periods. Additionally, the heat distribution is largely external – around 80% of the energy warms the air, and only 20% penetrates the body.

In contrast, infrared saunas operate at a more comfortable 45-60°C, with approximately 80% of the heat targeting the body directly and only 20% warming the surrounding air. This not only allows for longer, more therapeutic sessions but also makes them more accessible for a wider range of users.
