Ian Wright, OBE
We’d like to give a massive shout-out to one of our favourite clients, Ian Wright! Ian (pictured above with Touch Tuina practitioner Tyler) regularly visits the Kentish Town clinic and always brings sunshine and laughter with him. He’s always happy to chat with other clients, many of whom are lifelong Arsenal fans, and sign memorabilia and merchandise.
Ian Wright’s Football Career
Known for his career in football, Ian first signed as a professional for Crystal Palace in 1985. Spending 6 years there and helping them to win promotion, he scored a record total of 117 goals. Probably best known for his time with Arsenal, he signed for them in 1991, for a then record fee, and won the Golden Boot in his first season. Ian then went on to become Arsenal’s all-time top scorer, with a total of 185 goals. This record stood until it was eventually surpassed by Thierry Henry. While with Arsenal, he won the Premier League, the FA Cup and played 33 times for England.
Life after Football
Ian retired from professional football in 2000, after subsequently playing for West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Celtic and Burnley. In 2002, Ian became a regular on Match of the Day and proved to be incredibly popular on the show. He was most often seen alongside Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer, both of whom became close friends.
Since retiring from the show, he’s been involved in fashion campaigns and sports brands. Ian continues to be a football pundit on various other TV channels, including ITV and BT Sport. He’s also remembered for appearing on Top of the Pops, Friday Night’s All Wright, They Think It’s All Over, Big Brother, Gladiators, Top Gear, I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and many more shows.
Ian Wright’s Awards and Recognitions
In 2020 Ian was named TV/Radio Pundit of the Year by the Football Supporters Association. He won it for a second time in 2022, along with Pundit of the Year at the Broadcast Sports Awards and World Soccer’s Broadcaster of the Year. Ian is also well-known for appearing in TV commercials, for brands including Chicken Tonight, Nescafe, Ladbrokes, Wii and Nike.
So, not a bad career so far, which also includes being presented with an MBE in 2000, inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame in 2022, plus being awarded an OBE and being made a Freeman of the City of London in 2023!
