Touch Tuina Treatment Process

Tuina is the most tried and tested massage therapy in the world. It is an Ancient healing art that employs the use of the hands to press on key points on the surface of the body.  When these are points  stimulated they release tension, increase circulation and improve the body’s own natural healing process.

Tuina is translated as Tui ‘Push’ and Na ‘Grasp’.  Over the last two centuries Tuina has taken over the role of Physiotherapy, Osteopathy and Chiropractic in China.  As of 2010 TuiNa is now recognised in China as a distinct medical system in its own right.

A Tuina practitioner can stimulate many points during a single treatment, dredge many channels/meridians compared to acupuncture, as 400 needles may be too excessive for the patient to handle at any one time.  Tuina also has the ability to work on the local muscle near the trauma, and break down adhesions and scar tissue at the local level to increase the flow of blood, nutrients and oxygen (chi) to carry away damaged tissue.

  • Step 1

A Touch Tuina practitioner will first collect your medical information followed by a brief physical assessment.

  • Step 2

Patients will then be instructed to lie down or take a seat depending on the ailment presented. There is no need to remove clothing for the treatment and will be performed through a sheet. Some medicated/herbal ointments maybe applied to certain areas of the body if necessary.

  • Step 3

Your Touch Tuina practitioner may choose to supplement your treatment with additional tools to further aid in your recovery. (For example, far-infrared heat and light therapy sauna, cupping, acupuncture, gua-sha, magnet or laser therapy, lymphatic drainage, moxibustion and herbs)

Patients may feel a little sore during or after treatment, but the pressure of manipulation is adjusted for patients comfort but not so as to compromise the efficacy of treatment.

A Tuina treatment lasts about 30-60 minutes based on ones condition.

As part of your treatment program you may be given rehabilitation exercises to do at home in between treatments to continue and maintain strength, recovery and repair.
